I'm missing my goal of trying to finish another script in time to submit tomorrow to a) Nicholls Fellowship (though I did send DEERS! in to that) and b) The Sundance Institute. Ah, well. The best laid plans of mice and men... something something something. What I did do was get some feedback on IT HAPPENS EVERY SPRING from Keisuke, who knows a lot about futuristic science fiction. So I have some better constructs for rewrites, which I started today. I'll let these deadlines slide by and aim to finish this script by June 1 -- the next round of competitions, including The Next John Carpenter Film Contest sponsored by Creative Screenwriting Magazine.

Last night's Dodger's game (vs. the Mets) was fun, but I wasn't completely focused on it, not sure why. Tonight I'm screening a TV show -- subbing for a friend who's sick. Tomorrow morning it looks like I'll be helping out at the 7th Annual Dog Faire and Adoption Festival in Encino. Tallfellow is taking a booth (my idea) to try and market some of their kids' books to pet lovers. We've printed up $5 off coupons that I designed yesterday, in an attempt to drive traffic to the web site. We're also doing a Pin-the-Tail-on-The-Puppy contest and will be giving away posters, books , bookmarks, and -- here's my favorite -- address labels and envelope sealers featuring art from the kids' books, plus our URL. This was another of my bright ideas -- by putting your URL on an envelope, you're making sure at least 3 people see it: the addressee, the addressor (word?) and the mailman. The stickers came out exceptionally cute, so I hope this works. The best part about the $5 off coupon thing is that we can track how many people buy books using the promotional code. This will give us a concrete way to measure visitations to the sight, and sales, based on this public appearance. I'm excited to see if my business acumen pays off, and if it does, maybe I should consider calling Mr. Trump instead of flying off to graduate school to go hide in the stacks.
